TRADING STRATEGY
Plimsoll’s Headwind Strategy was developed in early 2003 with the objective of capitalizing on the short-term movement of the currency market. The Strategy has two technical-based components. The first segment uses a proprietary risk model that spots “exhaustion levels” in the major currencies to identify trade opportunities. The exhaustion levels are determined through technical analysis and are generated using daily charts of the seven major currencies. When the system signals a trade, the investment manager uses discretion on the location and timing of the execution. Trades can be entered up to 24 hours after the level is reached. Positions are held for three days on average, and they are generally closed within one to seven days from entry. The other fi fty percent of the system is based on short-term, opportunistic trades utilizing market information, technical analysis, and pattern recognition. These trades are generally shorter term, typically lasting less than 24 hours.
